Stage and Spotlights presents the eight time winning tony award Hairspray, the Broadway musical. In 1960s Baltimore, Tracy Turnblad seeks stardom and fame by dancing on The Corny Collins Show. She uses her newfound power to fight for an integrated TV network, all without missing a beat. Come join the fun and hear the live orchestra at one of the performances. This is a family friendly show.
We chose this show specifically because we knew it was a message that people needed to hear still today. We had a full orchestra, 50 different instruments.

Kids singing about basketball and teenage drama, “Disney’s High School Musical” revolves around some star-crossed lovers from separate cliques, and an underdog musical that brings everyone together. It’s a story that perfectly describes Stage and Spotlights Theatre’s own production of “Disney’s High School Musical,” which almost didn’t happen.
Note from the Director: High School Musical was the beginning of starting Stage and Spotlights Community Theatre in 2016 to save the production after the show was canceled by the original theater company days before the initial read through. I was excited to debut my directing work outside of UMD and it broke me to not see a very excited and devoted cast perform this story. It was the start of something new. As the original co-director of the show, I then became the director and producer. A majority of the cast and some of the production team continued to do the show. After fundraising over $3,000 on GoFundme to buy the license, several meetings and organizing venues we started rehearsing the production just one month later.
